Posted By Catman Afternoon all Can anyone confirm if the provision of lifting points on an industrial boiler, in order that it can be finally installed by the end users contractor, would be a HASWA section 6 requirement? If so would it be incumbent on the supplier or could the duty be transferred to the installer? Advice much appreciated. Thanks TW

Posted By Salus I would not have thought so section 6(3) puts onus on installer How did the supplier move the boiler about> Di you or others not ask for lifting points as part of the specifications?

Posted By Catman Hi Salus, sorry should have supplied more info, the boiler is not here yet. Yes we asked for lifting points but the manufacturer has just told us it has none. Dont know how they are moving it about as they are in Holland, I have asked them for installation instructions and for lifting points, I am just looking for legal backup as we are demanding they sort it for us instead of leaving the problem with the installer. Thanks for your input.

Posted By Ali If provision of lifting points is a safety design feature, then it comes under s6(1), which is the manufacturer's duty not the installer.

Posted By Peter Longworth Supply of Machinery Regs may apply. Essential health and safety requirements - Design of machinery to facilitate its handling. "Where the weight, size or shape of machinery or its various component parts prevents them from being moved by hand, the machinery or each component part must: — either be fitted with attachments for lifting gear; or — be designed so that it can be fitted with such attachments (eg threaded holes); or — be shaped in such a way that standard lifting gear can easily be attached" I hate people who quote regulations verbatim but in this case it just seemed easier.

Posted By William Maybe check over the LOLER regs as that covers lifting operations.

Posted By Catman Thanks guys, exactly what I was looking for, Peter, quoting the regs in this case was exactly what the doctor ordered. Cheers TW
