I'm trying to find out what "custom and practice" is for the 6-monthly LOLER statutory checks for patient lifting hoists in hospitals.
I'm particularly interested where the points of anchorage are above suspended ceiling panels.
In an operational ward environment, rummaging around moving these panels out of the way each time is out of the question from an infection control point of view.
So it's a dilemma!
Anyone out there got any experiences or information to share ?

You should consult the Competent Person who carries out the Thorough Examinations for you as ultimately it is their decision whether or not the ceiling panels have to be removed at every examination or not.
Following a full thorough examination they may be willing to allow examination of the enclosed parts to be subject to a written scheme that deviates from the six monthly period and increases this to annual or even greater periods.

Thanks Alistair.
However I have already done that - it's the Trust's insurance company. But 3 months later they've not come back to say whether or not they will allow an examination scheme extending the inspection period or not.
I was hoping that if I can find other NHS Trusts who have already crossed that hurdle and operate examination schemes over a longer period than 6 monthly, then this might help them reach a decision.
After all, this hospital can't be the only one with the problem.
