Posted By John Smith Hi all, I'm looking for a short training course, in the East Midlands area for a female member of staff who will become a risk assessor for N&EM's in our business. Anyone know of a suitable course.

Posted By ITK John you dont need a course, just buy HSG122 New and Expectant Mothers at Work. A Guide for Employers. Priced £9.50 from HSE books.

Posted By Jan Moore Depending on what your ladies do at work, you will need to ask a few questions to support your risk assessment. I assess new mums and expectant staff in catering, cleaning, teaching etc etc. One thing to look for where ladies might be in contact with young children at work is the dreaded rubella and chickenpox!!! I agree with the last post, you really don't need a training course at all. If you need any further help, let me know.

Posted By Ian G Hutchings Hi John You haven't mentioned whether your colleague has any risk assessment experience/training in the first place. I agree that someone who is well versed in risk assessment/safety can go off the text, but if they do not have the underpinning knowledge they will need some training. This could always be in-house if need be. In a defence case you would need to prove competence and with no prior knowledge or experience having read a book alone may not stand up. All the best Ian

Posted By Rochelle Eames Hi there I am not formally trained in risk assessments for N&E Mothers, but I found an excellent risk assessment checklist on the following website. whig.org.uk/groups/sohas/news/mothers-at-work Good luck
