Help -

As part of my current post I have to advise on Noise Assessments. Here's the rub - I have never done a noise assessment nor am I qualified to do so.

Does anyone know of a course or courses run around the Bristol/Bath area that I could have a run at please?

I am not averse to travelling anywhere in the country if a REALLY GOOD provider is recommended.

Thanks

Jeff

Oh - just in case anyone is thinking I shouldn't have taken on the job in the first place without the proper training/experience, this has been added to the terms and conditions in the last few weeks!

Hi Jeffrey,

Depending on how competent you want to become, you could try the British Occupational Hygiene Society. They have a module (M104) on noise and vibration. The course runs for a week and they have a number of providers around the country.

Or, a number of consultancies run similar 3 day courses.

As this is my first post, I must say that I am surprised by how few people post health related queries or indeed know little about occupational hygiene. After all we are supposed be 'health' and safety professionals.

In Winchester SJK Scientifics do a 2 day course accredited by the Institute Of Accoustics. The course was fairly good.

Some years ago the University of Salford ran a very good one accredited by Inst of Acoustics.

I was attending an IOA course with EEF Bristol on Monday 6th but it has been cancelled due to the trainer being sick if you find anything in the area let me know I have waited 9 months for this course and feel a bit let down.

I have put my H&S assistant on the IOA Workplace course in Bristol, I too am dissapointed it's cancelled. We did get a spot on one in Oakham (near Leics) as this was the nearest one with space. If you're intent on doing it you'll need to organise it tonight or wait another 6 months.

Have you considered engaging a noise/havs (same principles) consultant. Depending on your workplace, it might be more beneficial to bring in an expert in the first instance who would no doubt provide you with rudimentary knowledge for day-to-day monitoring. I know of a good consultant (not me) based on the M4 corridor.

Jeffrey,

on your other posts you have put down that you work for the MOD. If that is the case then you do not need to look any further than your own backyard. They provide their own courses for free to MOD Employees.
