Posted By pban Morning all first post for me. Does anyone know where I can get some accident stats for Construction other than the HSE web site? All the figures I have seen quote the usual 100,000 workers, does anyone have a norm to convert to hours or hours back to workers? I am trying to find a baseline AFR for RIDDOR reported incidents in construction, I have found this data http://www.hse.gov.uk/st...try/construction-ld1.htm but this excluded dangerous occurrences as far as I can see. Any help, pointers, guidance , opinions and alike would be very much appreciated Thanks for looking Paul

Posted By Mike Draper This is always a tricky one. We record construction hours, as I guess you do, since we sub out all of the construction work. Recording the number of individual workers is meaningless when they are only on site for relatively short periods. However for comparison purposes I estimate there to be on average 1,980 hours in a year (38hrs x 52 weeks). You could arguably use any figure around 2,000 plus/minus anything up to 500 depending on how you see things. 1,980 I think is defensible and works for us. Mike

Posted By pban Mike, thanks for the response Reporting accident stats internally is easy as we use the man hours as we track this data same as you I guess, problem comes when asked to compare against industry norms and our competitors. They all seem to report using the 100,000 workers. What is a fair translation of 100,000 workers? More to the point what is fair for construction in the process plant building industry, in my experience people are on site 10+ hours 5-6 days a week Paul
