Posted By Martin Taylor We are looking at getting a safe access system for our warehouse operatives to access the bed of 40ft trailers and similar vehicles from ground level.
There appears to eba plethora of good qaulity mobile steps available these days and these would be fine but ideally what I need is a variant where the top platform is level with the vehicle bed and the top guard is a swinging gate so that the operative can demount the steps without having to scrabble over the railings - I have seen these in practice bit they may have been 'locally modified items'.
Does anybody know where such steps can be procured - alternatively are there better and safer means?
thanks
Martin

Posted By Paul Devlin Try Seton and Arco, they are 2 suppliers that I know of by memory.
They are not modified and indeed are intended for access/egress from trailers.
1 thing to look out for make sure you get the ones with gate or chain guard as some of them have fixed "cages" at the top and will obviously inhibit access/egress onto the steps themselves.

Posted By Martin Taylor thanks - I am aware of the number of very good suppliers who can supply mobile steps but a search of www. today has only come up with suppliers with the 'cage type' top platform. Maybe I was unlucky but I wonder whether the use of a gate or chains may have died down following changes to working at height regs

Posted By Merv Newman There is an advert for a safe access system in this month's practitioner. Barriers on all three sides and a built-in stair

Posted By Martin Taylor thanks Merv - I had seen this arrangement but don't believe it is suitable in our case we have about 10 40 footers and 20 7.5 tonne boxes to service each day.
Access to trailer bed is very short duration and the idea of mobile steps is greeted by all as a major improvement on current arrangements - it's just finding a supplier for the right type of steps
thanks

Posted By Paul Devlin Martin the ones from seton or arco have exactly what your looking for.
I'm in logistics/distribution and we use them they have steps leading up to cage but the front of the cage swings open to allow access to the trailers.
