I have been asked on numerous occasions to provide detailed information regarding the IOSH Working and Managing Safely course, by Project/Construction management, before they will allow the candidates taught (and passed) onto any of the sites! I find this absolutely ridiculous, so want to know if any other business/trainers have found this occurring also?

I must just point out an error in the message from myself, and say that candidates are NOT being allowed on Construction Sites even with the IOSH courses. So question is as previous message posted. Is anyone getting the same problem? Kerry

advise them to use the CITM courses incl SMSTS as they are specific to construction. the two courses you mention are good but they are for generalist managers and workers. Better still do as we always do and sit down with client and his risk information and design a course that addresses specific controls and the specific I, I, T and S required

Kerry,
I think you have made the assumption that the world knows & thinks highly of IOSH as we all do.
If you look at all (assuming you have lost the will to live!) the discussions on the forums about CSCS cards, you will see that so far as the construction industry is concerned IOSH does not exist.

Yes, I do get the impression from some (not all) project/CDM site managers that IOSH do not appear on their radar as a grounding in H&S, which can be tailored as Richard stated earlier.

Hi Kerry
In Northern Ireland the Construction Employers Federation prescribe 'IOSH Managing Safely in Construction'in their paperwork as the benchmark for managers in businesses going through Safe T Cert Accreditation.
IOSH are heavily involved in the Safe T Cert programme and it is significantly raising the profile of IOSH courses, only current problem seems to be most organisations still use CITB as it is more widely known and percieved as more accessible.
Cheers

Hi,
I will have to look at investing in the 'IOSH Managing Safely for Construction' to pacify this category as alot of the clients are on or related to construction projects.
Many thanks.
