Hi
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this,
We recently went through an extension phase at work. During this time the main entrance was blocked off until the new area was complete so during the extension work within the building we turned one of the fire exit doors into the main entrance. At the time it was a push bar to open door, however we had a piece of reinforced glass fitted to it so people could see.

The door is now back to being just a fire exit door and what i wanted to know is that is it acceptable to have a push bar to open fire exit with a piece of reinforced glass in it?

I would be really grateful for any advice with this.

Kind regards
Natasha

It depends if the glass is up to standard for being in a fire door. You should check the standard number for more information.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure if I fully understand the problem.

If the door is a fire exit door then it does not need to be a 'fire door' unless it is under/on an external means of escape stair.

If the door is purely an emergency exit then I do not see the problem with having reinforced glass unless there is a high likelihood that it will break if it was opened in an emergency. I'm not sure if there is a British Standard specifically for external emergency exit doors. The important thing is that it can be opened without the use of a key and requires only a single action to do so.

I'll try and find out if there is a BS for this type of door.

I agree with Shaun, because it is a final exit door, then if it is safety glass or wired glass then it should be OK
