Posted By J Knight Hi Folks, We've all noticed how some threads crop up time and again, and this has suggested to me the idea of some kind of guide, either online or perhaps even old-fashioned print, which deals with answers to frequently asked questions. There's loads of H&S books dealing with the law, writing SMS's, passing NEBOSH and so on, but there really isn't anything with short answers to perplexing and common questions. Pigeons is one, RIDDOR is another, and paying for PPE. New Scientist has published collections of answers to feedback questions, and has got itself a couple of best-sellers; now I don't think there will be any money in this, but there could be a gap in the market here. IOSH could perhaps use some of the better answers, in the New Scientist line, or commission something entirely fresh. Is this a good idea? Or am I getting carried away. I think this idea has come up before and nothing has come of it, but maybe its an idea who's time is right, John

Posted By Phil D Well with regards to pigeons, the reason I posted, is because old threads did not offer anything I hadn't already looked into. I think to keep referring back to old threads is fine if they hold definitive answers, but as for ideas and suggestions, a different day may mean a new member, with new ideas. I agree with your idea, but it will not always be appropriate. Regards, Phil

Posted By J Knight Fair comment Phil; I only used pigeons in the thread title 'cos it allowed a bit of a take on one the aforementioned best-sellers, John

Posted By Phil D I know J and think you are absolutely right. I have posted when the answer lay in previous threads, so I for one fully agree with the idea. Maybe the forum could impliment a category tick box, for when the title of the thread does not actually mention the subject matter? Then you could conduct a search by category. Just a thought.

Posted By cara Search by category is definitely a good idea! I often can't find what I'm looking for when using the search function - I'm sure I'm not the only one! This is probably why people may decide just to post a new item?!

Posted By Merv Newman I agree. The search function is not really of much help. An FAQ section could be a good idea. Or, as has been suggested before, some kind of library of regs, acops, best practices and so on. I'd be happy to contribute on a "Free but acknowledged copyright" basis. Merv
