Posted By Robin B Hi Just a quickie. I'm pretty sure that there is no requirement to provide hearing tests to employees in the latest Regs and am looking for confirmation. I'm in a light production environment with some equipment noise that exceeds the 1st action level on infrequent occassions. However, do some special groups, such as FLT drivers require tests? Thanks in advance Robin

Posted By David B Robin I don't agree Im afraid. Under Reg 9(1) "If the risk assessment indicates that there is a risk to the health of his employees who are, or are liable to be, exposed to noise, the employer shall ensure that such employees are placed under suitable health surveillance, which shall include testing of their hearing" Pretty clear I think for providing hearing testing.

Posted By David Bannister The only legal requirement is where your assessment indicates a risk to health from workplace noise. If you have assessed the noise exposures as presenting no risk, then you have no legal duty to provide hearing tests. However, to avoid potential problems in future it would be prudent to ensure that your assessment is based on good data and that the assessment has been carried out by a competent person. Also, if employees have previously been exposed to high noise you may wish to consider whether to carry out some testing.

Posted By Descarte I wonder if there is any requirement for audiometry in industries solely based around exposure to lead and not noise, which would therefore be missed by a noise survey.
