Posted By TomP There I was looking for a way to convince our site staff that rigger boots are not the best footwear although they are the defacto. I was going along the ilnes of lack of ankle support, soak up water etc. after the previous posts on this forum.
Then I found this on Wikipedia!!! ....... think it might work.
'Rigger boots are a popular fetish items among some gay men, since they are often looked upon as imparting an air of masculinity on those that wear them.'
At the risk of offending the equal ops lobby and not wishing to cause an offence, can I use this do you think?

I think you will be a lot safer with your first argument.
As you rightly pointed out Rigger boots do not provide ankle support, nor do they offer other types of support provided by lace ups. If you were dragged along by a vehicle or suspended from a scaffold, what would be the first part of your attire to disappear?

Was your question multiple choice? If so I would have gone for the safety head gear as my first choice. No but on a serious note. I agree with you riggers boots provide little or no protection. When there are so many good examples of supportive safety footwear on the market why do people still insist on wearing them.

Posted By db There are a number of manufacturers who supply riggers with ankle support. I use doctor m's. They are very good!

Like the last poster I do have a pair of rigger boots that I wear, on short visits they are great as they can be taken off so the inside of the car (and more importantly the pedals) don't get caked with mud.
However, my rigger boots were £140 quid, are gore-tex lined and are actually a good fit rather than a cheap £10 pair that are loose fitting with minimal support.
If I'm on site all day I'll wear my Magnums (high leg boots with full sown in tongue) again not cheap.
With regards wearing lace up boots, what are being provided instead?
Are we talking shoes?
Ankle boots which unless are laced up properly can cause injury and how much support they offer is sbject to debate (from my SAR days most walkers with lower leg injuries were wearing ankle boots that didn't adequately support the ankle, as an aside it's why military boots are normally high leg, whilst it reduces ankle articulation it does give very good support and also works well against water ingress.
Or are we talking high leg boots.
The other thing with ankle and high leg boots, unless they have a full length sown in tongue they will let just as nuch water in (if not more than) a rigger boot.
