Posted By Karel Simpson Hi,
The company I work for have a selection of painters who frequently have the task of painting walls in domestic property's and use steps for this process. However I am trying to find some form of small working platform that can fit in the vans is class 1 and offers protection, for example temp. guard rails that can be put up.
Does anyone know if these exist and where to look?

Posted By Karel Simpson Thanks Philby,
Just been told by one of our project managers that we have podium steps but lads don't like them so they are in lock up!
Or should I say they were.

Posted By Salus Hi Karel, why can u not use step ladders. The max. height in a room is about2.4 mts, when standing on the first 2 or 3 steps your operatives should be able to reach ceiling height. Therefore you are only using the steps for the last 400mm or so. Just carry out a risk assessment, train your operatives in the correct / incorrect use and inspection and maintenance of ladders. Always monitor the work for unsafe working practises If the properties are occupied I would have thought there was more of a man. handling risk if u use podium steps than a WAH risk.
just my thoughts

Posted By Karel Simpson Thanks for your comments, most of our work is refurbsihing properties and staff are occasionally lone working so if they where to fall from heights they could be waiting for their hourly check call to ensure they are safe.
Yes theoretically we can use steps as operatives will not be at that much of a height yet I am not looking at just comlying with regs I am also interested in the operatives safety and where as a step ladder provides only a small base for their feet a platform i.e. tressle or podium steps will eliminate the risk of a fall from an unsafe structure. Also we take into account that our lads could be spending quite a few hors a day up at a height.
