Posted By Colin Could anyone help I need to confirm if there is any recommended noise level that should not be exceeded when working at night in an external rural environment. [To eliminate the risk of nuisance noise to any neighbouring houses near to work site]

Posted By :(Dip2examsarelooming Hi Colin, Might seem obvious but have you contact the local enforcing authority for assistance? Part III of the Environmental Protection Act is a good starting point, look on the netregs website www.netregs.gov.uk. Good luck Gemma

Posted By Adrian Watson The short answer is no, there are no standards for noise nuisance! BS4142 is for the noise rating of industrial noise and NOT for noise nuisance.
The general rule would be to back calculate the noise level inside a property (it should be less than 35dBA inside the bedroom and there should be no discrete frequencies or bangs).
Then from general formulae from a text book and with knowledge of the directivity component of the noise you can calculate the predicted noise level.
The best thing is to talk to your neighbours and come to an agreement as to the types and times of working.
Regards Adrian Watson
