Hi there,
I have just done a search and notice previous info on this subject, but thought I would post anyway.
I am after examples of how people have transferred info from fire checklists into actual assessments.
If anyone would be willing to share this with me, it would be gratefully received.
I have got to the point of the checklist and the gathering of info, however, now am thinking of how to transfer this info into an assessment format.

Its a risk assessment, what hazards did you find on your checklist.
Obvioulsy these need to be noted in your assessment, suitably assessed and an action plan to be in place to reduce risk further if required.
Most FRA's will also catagorise these identified risks in to 3 catagories requiring either immediate, prompt or later remediation or by severity.
Wanted to give a helpful answer and not bang on competancy which I can gaurentee some people will

There we go making life very complicated again. If you have any previous experience at risk assessment its quite simple. Lok at what fire risk is present and apply normal practice. Fire is difficult to imagine but think in terms of what can start a fire, what can keep it going, who is affected and what is the likelyhood of those persons being injured by the fire and go from there. I have just completed ours and low and behold the fire risk in a no smoking office is low when you take account of maintenance of a tidy workplace with everyting in itx proper place, adequate maintenance and inspection regimes in place - if they are not there put it into an action plan for remediation according to the level of risk.

If you e-mail me direct, I have just produced what I deem a fantastic Risk Assessment and a fairly comprehensive evacuation Plan for New offices that we have just constructed and moved to this week. I am quite proud of what I've produced and even invited our local fire enforcement officer in to show it off, who also thought it was fantastic, though I say it myself.
My philosophy to share as much of my experience with as many people as I can while still on our wonderful but ailing planet. especially if it saves a life, or just makes people happy and safe.
If nothing else it will give you a good start, and you may improve on it.
The main thing you need to do is assess your hazards, flammables and combustibles in association with anything that may generate a heat source or ignition. Look at who has potential to be in danger and ensure you have suitable precautions in place for means of escape and emergency warning. but remember it is prevention rather than cure so reduce your hazards down to acceptable levels. You may have to review your staff training.
I have trained Marshall's, in the general rules of fire safety given them additional training specific to the evacuation plan, conducted a drill briefed and trained all members of staff, reviewed after the evacuation drill. Given additional responsibilities to staff, alarm tests, maintenance checks, and recording. Put an action plan in place for the minor improvements.
it has been a bit of a learning curve as well, it took a lot of time, to put all the items in place, and i had do research.
I read the Dept of Communities & Local Government Guide to assist me in line with the Fire Safety Order. which helped so if you have not read that go on the web and down load or you can buy a copy. very useful.

Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure what the comment about making things complicate is about!!!!
I know how to do a risk assessment, I guess what i was getting at was if you think how long a FRA checklist can be, do you then list each of the items over into an actual risk assessment, detailing what your control measures are?
Or can you categorise the assessment into three areas, for example:
Sources of ignition
Fuel
Sources of oxygen
Or would that be too generic?

Sorry for any offence. Not meant in those terms merely to say do your normal method, only be aware its fire and sometimes hard to imagine. Don't be afraid you already have the practical wherebyfor.

Hi Brenda,
If you read the Guidance document you will see that you only need to record the Significant Findings. You will have more information than that already if you have undergone a comprehensive information gathering/recording process.
You can if you wish make a page as per the usual risk assessment recommendations but I think this is duplication of information.
Just create a page that can be used to put all significant findings on. You may be surprised at how few there are?
