Posted By Dan dan diddly squat by all accounts just a mere upgrade from the certificate if you look at the accreditation that goes with it (tech Iosh / tech sp) Still naffed off spending out, getting qualified and in comes the rule change. Doing the level 4 now, I hear the format to that is about to change too - hope the goal posts arnt moving ahead as well

The Diploma 1 used to be rated at NVQ Level 3.6 and the Diploma 2 used to be rated at NVQ level 4.7.
That is on the old rating scale where the revised Diploma was rated at level 4 to match the NVQ. It is the Level 6 Dipolma now on the new rating scale.
Hope this helps

Posted By Stupendous Man Melanie,
Although others may go to great lengths to explain relative values of the old and new diplomas, in practice the old Dip1 is now worth the same as the Certificate.

Whilst the old diploma was listed as a level 4, the new one at level 6, in reality they are still one and the same level
Under the qualification framework in England & Wales, this is listed as 1 - 8, with the old diploma, the level 6 diploma (academic) and the NVQ 4 (vocational) are listed at level 6 along with the likes of Honours degrees etc, level 7 being Masters/NVQ5's etc, and Level 8 being Phd's level
In Scotland we have a similar structure (SQCF) but is listed 1 - 12, with the old diploma/level 6 & SVQ level 4 all sitting in around level 8, degrees at level 10, Masters at level 11, Phd's at level 12.
Level 6 is classified for highers and VQ level 3
Confusing at the best of times
At the end of the day, Dip 1, is better than a VQ level 3, but nowhere near a level 4.
