Good Afternoon,
I know this is more food safety than health and safety but I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has been involved in the on-going debate about the provision (or not) of fresh eggs to residents in social care premises.
We have I think managed to justify the use in children's services, following a risk assessment, but would be keen to hear of any comments/ views etc on the same for older people ( a dreaded vulnerable group!!!!).

Surely, if people buy eggs with the lion stamp and they are cooking them properly, and no one has an alergy or is particularly prone to illness, eggs are OK in social care!?

Joe,
The manager of the premises should have done HACCP to identify any areas of concern, and put measures in place.
What exactly are the concers? As far as I am aware neither LACORS, CSCI or FSA have a problem with fresh eggs in any aspect of social care, so long as appropriate food hygiene and other management measures are in place.
