Posted By Paul Oliver The Certificate of Competence of Demolition Operatives (CCDO) scheme is for anyone whose job entails on-site demolition. The scheme applies to new entrants, temporary workers, and existing operatives with site experience. The scheme was affiliated to the CSCS in July 2002 and it means that a person holding the card will meet the minimum qualification, experience and Health and Safety requirements to work on a Major Contractors Group site. It is partly NVQ based, with the Demolition Site Operative and Demolition Operative 1 (Labourer) being the only cards not requiring proof of an NVQ. There are seven different cards available, depending on qualifications and experience. I now run a small health & safety practice in Bolton and regularly help clients who shall we say are not as ofay with demolition so as to take on the 'competent' person role.
