I noticed that Allan St John Holt (often a contributer to this forum) and (for those in Local Govt Health and Safety circles)Stephen Sumner both got an OBE in this years honours list. May I offer my congratulations.

Thanks Chas, much appreciated. Praise from your peers is the best compliment you can get.

Congrats Allan.

In a fair & just world, it should have been a knighthood at least.

I know this is not the first time H&S has been recognised in the honours lists but mentions are very few and far between so many congratulations to both Allan and Stephen.

Thanks to all for your good wishes. Modesty forbids that I make too much of this, but I would like to share with you the notice I gave to Press enquiries - so far I've not seen it printed, but it does get a point across!

Quote: "This is a personal honour for me, but it is also a tribute to the work of thousands of British safety professionals. They have done a magnificent job of applying sensible safety in reducing the toll of deaths and injury at work and play over the past thirty years. It’s also a tribute to all who work in Royal Mail, where accidents have been cut by more than 50% over the past four years thanks to everyone’s hard work."

Congratulations to Allan and Steve.

These colleagues are both very worthy recipients of this award.

Our profession has taken some knocks over the past couple of years, so good news such as this is very welcome.

Well done,

Eric

I would also like to add my congratulations. Modesty may refrain Alan from trumpeting his success, but I happen to think that a life-time of championing the cause of health and safety is worth a gong.

Congratulations to you both, your clear and practical approach to H&S started me down the road to a fascinating and rewarding profession. I have no doubt you have done the same for many others.

Congratulations again.
