Im currently doing up a booklet in health and safety. Im looking at about 20 pages to give the basics, in a small booklet form so people could just pick it up and put it in their pockets.

Anyone done this or have something similar to help get me going?

How about looking at the leaflets that the HSE offer as free handouts? I would think they are a good starting point. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/leaflets.htm

I came across this some time ago on the Co-op bank website. I think it covers the basics pretty well, although only for office based staff

Hi JPK,

If I am not being too bold, I would be interested in a copy of your construction H&S booklet

All,

Rather than turn this into a lengthy "me too" thread (which makes the mods very upset and prone to irrational bursts of thread locking), please contact any individual directly with requests for information.

Hi Anders

I am now throwing a spanner in the works. Will people read it? Is it the best way to get the message across?

I have plenty of examples of H&S booklets that people simply do not read and they do not make a difference to health and safety performance.

On the other hand, if it is a useful readable guide that forms one part of a larger communication and follow up exercise it will be beneficial. I believe these things should be worked through with people rather than just handed out with a signature page.

Are you doing this as part of a wider communication exercise? How will you check that people understand and comply with the booklet? What follow up monitoring can you use to determine the value of the booklet?

Happy to give more thoughts and see if I can dig out an example if you email me.

All the best

Ian
