Posted By Lee Mac Hi All,
We have currently upgraded our internet system which now can scan email & Internet usage. We have a young workforce there are quite a few with I shall describe as "inquisitive" minds that have wandered a bit from work use.
Is there anyone out there with a policy for the use of computers/internet at work that they wouldn't mind sharing?
Thanks,
Liam

Posted By CW If you want to stop them visiting sites, your IT boffins will be able to put a block on certain types of site, for example urls that contain certain words like 'chat' or 'midgetporn'
Also if you needed to visit certain sites as part of your job, that specific site can be allowed.

Posted By Fraser Dalziel Hi Liam, We have recently finished updating our internet/email policy, and use this in conjunction with a proxy server which can monitor all internet access. We developed the policy at advice by local solicitors, who suggested we conduct an impact assessment then tell staff of the internet/email policy, and any monitoring undertaken (and consequences of misuse). So there are two steps: 1) developing the policy (a complete ban? a limited use during lunch hour/out of hours? banning sites or subjects such as news? (most effective by blocking sites)). 2) advising staff of the policy. A point stressed by the solicitor was that we have to ensure that the policy is adhered to. For instance, if everybody consistently downloads music, and this is against policy, and you discipline someone (possibly leading to dismissal) for abuse, that person could claim unfair dismissal. Hope this helps. Yours, Fraser
