Hello all
I am looking for some assistance/ideas on methods of disposing of animal faeces.
I work for a Local Authority that provides this disposal service. Our current method is to collect as bulk trade waste in one of our refuse vehicles, these vehicles are fitted with compactors. The waste is bagged by the customer and then placed in a 'bulk bin' which is the mechanically tipped in to our vehicle.

The problem is that when the vehicles' compactor is operated the bags are squashed and burst. This causes the proverbial to hit everything but the fan. Vehicles are 'washed down' every day (which contaminates the yard), but our vehicle fitters climb inside vehicles to replace/maintain the rams.

Does anyone else in LA's provide this service and how? Has this ben resolved by an alternative disposal method? Any help/suggestions would be most welcome.

You are probably using the wrong vehicles / systems to collect the waste [its still classed as hazardous [I think - will somebody out there clear my mind] and should be treated as such + you are contaminating land

Get competent help re 'hazardous waste'

How do you 'dispose' of the waste as we use a specialist company

Hi,

WIthout wanting to sound stupid, is it possible to undertake the task without compacting the waste? or is this necessary?

Regards

Bob/ Robert

Thank you for taking the time to respond, it is appreciated.

Robert. Not stupid at all. Have now informed the relevant manager to instruct collection staff, to make this the last collection of the round and leave uncompacted in the vehicle hopper and taken to the incinerator as per normal.

This may add a few minutes to the round but should virtually eliminate the problem.
