Does anyone know whether asbestos is likely to be present in shelters on railway station platforms?

Assuming it is an old shelter, then there is a good chance there is asbestos present. Perhaps asbestos rope in the skylights etc.

Anyway, under the Control of Asbestos Reg 2006, you have to assume there is asbestos present unless there is good cause to believe otherwise.

Think that answers your question.

If built after 2000 then no, between 1985 & 1999 may contain products which have chrysotile and if built pre 1985 may contain the full gambit.

However if you have not sampled / surveyed you are legally bound to assume that if a product is likely to contain Asbestos you have to assume it does, and you have to assume its the worst types Blue / Brown

Reg 5 CAR06 - however this is only if you intend to do work on this shelter.

Reg 4 says that you should find your asi, assess its condition, put a plan together and then manage what you have.

Hi,
I work for a railway co. and we are yet to find any asbestos in our platforms and we have carried out type 2 surveys.

Although as per previous posts the new regs give specific instructions on dealing with this issue.

You can e-mail me for more info if needed.
