Posted By Kelly Mellis Evening all,
I am due to risk assess an activity which involves handling various plants, planting them out and tending to a garden etc. I have no problem with the activity based risk assessment, however I would like to know somewhere I can source information as to the toxicity of plants etc so I can check them when the list of plants being used arrives with me.
Any ideas?

Posted By Kelly Mellis Most of the plants will have been home grown so we don't really have that option - will do for some though.
Thanks!

Posted By CRN Baker Have you tried the Royal Horticultural Society? They may be able to help or point you in the right direction. Their website is www.rhs.org.ukGood luck with your info. search and if you find a good source do post to let forum users know for future reference!!

Posted By Robert. kelly, i would suspect that if you know the latin name of the plants then places such as Kew (is spelling correct?)gardens or cambridge botanical Gdns could help. if you only have the every day common or garden name (pun) then that may not help as a particular species may have many variants.
Anyway, wear non-permeable gloves and follow normal hygiene advice.

remember some plants are toxic and are hazardous waste - undertake a dynamic risk assess before you start e.g. get a gardner in
the biggest individual cost on a railway bridge job that I undertook recently was; believe it or not; plant control [removal disposal etc]
