Happy new year to all, I have a couple of questions regarding the inspection frequency of Deck Gratings and the securing clips.

Is there a legislative standard for this other than the work place regs?

and if not what best practice routine are other industries taking?

I would appreciate your knowledge and experience in how I can resolve this issue, and set up a reasonable inspection system.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

we work in marine conditions and undertakethe following.

Inspection once a year which is the frequency requirement of the Maintenance manual (Presumably from recommendation by the manufacturers Eurogrid)

The Inspection dept. carry out this inspection every six months & on the maintenance section we check & tighten fittings etc 12 monthly also.

Good practice is obviously to check when using…. as is done on the Launch platforms on a start of shift basis as it’s particularly exposed.

Hope this helps

Regards

Brian

My experience relates to manufacturing, chiefly chemicals. Generally speaking there are no formal inspections - people soon report loose stairs, gratings etc. you need to have
a good fault reporting system (which can react quickly if required). It is not practicable to go around inspecting every clip on a large multi floored site.

Thanks Guys,

We are already doing similar things to yourselves, the reason for the question was on the back of an accident, and I was trying to find out whether there was an industry standard or something specific that we weren't doing.

your responses have allayed a big fear, and I can now go back to management and present them with reasonable recommendations.

Cheers

Simon
