What is the maximum distance permitted for the siting of scaffolding from a building?

Thanks,

can you be more specific? do you mean between the building and the scaffolding standards or any other building in vacinity?

Sorry not very clear

It all very much depend on what the scaffolding is to be used for. i.e timber frame construction, brickwork etc, if you see what I mean It should all be done by design.

You can have free standing scaffolds anywhere you like. Note that they only need a formal design if they are load bearing. Scaffolds should be built to the apropriate BS and the NASC standard.

Mike,

Apologies for that. I am looking for

1)the distance that is permitted between the scaffolding and a building under construction

and

2) the distance that would be permitted between a timber frame and scaffolding.

Unfortunately I cannot access the design specs- would there be a norm?

Thanks,

Lee

In my experience the scaffold should be as close to the structure as possible to let the work take place. If the gap is 300mm or greater (and an infill board cannot be fitted) internal edge protection should be provided.

Timber frame construction poses a number of considerations associated with proximity of platforms to the structure at its various stages. Also, as the scaffold is often erected in advance of the structure particular attention must be given to its stability. (There being nothing in place to tie it into)

Hope this helps
