An organisation supplies new and refurbished plant such as JCB and dumper truck. Operators move these vehicles around the workplace including loading onto trailers/transporters and also move them on customer's sites, eg when testing vehicles after repair. The operators are not operatring the vehicles as such, merely moving them around.
I would be grateful for any guidance on the training that would be appropriate for these operators, given that it would not be practicable to provide operator training for each type of vehicle.

As you say thet aren't operating them. I would suggest some form of training though. To allow them the safe movement of vehicles. For example the use of a banksman and hazard perception, especially with members of the public hovering about occasionally.

Although the operators are not 'operating ' the vehicles and 'merely' moving them around. What are we talking about? As soon as they climb aboard and switch on they should know exactly what each control does and the capability of the vehicle they are in control of. Therefore they should receive training in each and every vehicle they operate. That's my stand on this kind of activity.

Expanding on the first statement.
If personnel are moving plant and machinery around the yard loading and unloading at customer premises. Should they not be trained in handling and safe loading.
It has to be a safe system of work. You can't have untrained people loading lorries, if they are unfamiliar with a piece of equipment, how do they know it is safely loaded and cant fall off onto joe public.
Must have instruction and training on all types.
