Distances to walk to a toilet while road working

Posted By Sally Pritlove Can anyone give me an idea how far someone should walk to get to the toilet when involved in road working? Particularly as the start and end of the project can be miles apart. I know the Regulations say "readily accessible" but this isn't defined. Can anyone give me an idea please as I'm sure in the past I had read a maximum distance of travel. Thanks

Posted By Bob Youel common sense should be involved as people can be 'caught-short' discuss all options [Using other peoples facilities / public toilets etc] with your managers etc noting that mini-loo's are not to expensive and hygiene is a must In my opinion for all works lasting 1 week or more in one area proper facilities should be in place

Posted By Salus Hi Sally, I have worked on buid sites where welfare is usually in a compound,this can sometimes be hundreds of m's away from where persons are working. On a high rise (20 + floors)build the norm is to have toilets on certain floor levels, say every 4th to 6th floor. I would have thought that for guidance a distance of 200m's is a starting point. You may use public toilets or have an agreement (before work starts) with a some other close by establishment. HTH's

Posted By Berg Sally On transient rail worksites we work to overall travel time to a facility should preferably be no more than 10 mins regardless of method of travel but an absolute max of 30 mins (RIAG ACOP003). It's often difficult to place a wc lineside and access/egress to the infrastructure can take up a alot of time esp if lines are open, i imagine you have similar issues on roads.
