Today at work my manager asked me to use a scissor lift to re-instste some scaffold hand-rail.I noticed that the handrail at one end of the mewp had rusted and came away!.He said to fix a temporary scaffold hand-rail so the job could get done.I wasnt too happy as i thought that if an accident happened ,would i be covered?.Any feedback appreciated.

If your employer is going to place you in a situation of risk, its time to change employers.

Would you be covered knowing the consequences of the hazard, fall from height likely to cause serious injury. Probably not from an insurance point of view and your employer would have to foot the bill, and for the subsequent prosecution that would follow.

Do not do it, stamp your feet and insist on safe equipment and appropriate training to use it...

Ask to see a copy of the last LOLER certification. It wont have gone rusty overnight and I would be dissappointed if the competent person had missed it. It may be that your employer is ignoring professional advice.
