Posted By songwriter am i being silly?? 2 London clubs will be contesting the cup final next month in Cardiff, surely from a health and safety and a 'green' point of view wouldn't it make more sense to hold the final in London, needless travel and saved fuel and preventing people travelling in possible poor weather conditions, am i missing something? answers on a postcard please to.............

Posted By Steve Cartwright How many 70,000 seater stadiums have you got in London. I think you've only got one and that is not finished yet and I don't think this is the place to be discussing football issues.

Posted By Emyr Evans Nice thought.
Then why choose London for the venue for any major sporting final - relocate Wembley to Birmingham (central) or Manchester (close to Liverpool & Manchester United)
IRU should also move their home matches from Twickenham.
Thinking outside the box - in this day and age, why have the Olympics in one venue. Could not all athletes just clock their best time at their home track & send the results to a computer which allocates the medals on best times / distances etc.
People play chess & bridge on their PC - so its easy to do - great idea songwriter

Posted By Makka From an H&S point of view the police in Cardiff manage the crowds very well. In the past fans were not allowed to stay in the city on the night before the match on public safety grounds, to prevent drunken rivalry getting out of control. They also manage the egress of the fans in a very professional way ensuring segregation is effective and does not cause problems.
From a carbon emissions view point it is possibly more beneficial for the match to be held somewhere away from London as fans then tend to travel by coach or train to the event rather then 60,000 cars trying to get to a London venue and park.

Posted By Tabs As there was a knock at the environmental side of the game, has anyone else chuckled at the TV advert when a chap claims a football team to be doing their "20%" by washing the kit at 30 degrees?
He is stood in front of a pitch being floodlit by dozens of high-power lamps! Why not train/play in the daylight? Probably save even more than your 20% of a wash cycle!

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith With modern media facilities, surely the ultimate conclusion would be to eliminate the crowd completely. Result massive reduction in carbon emissions, less noise and crowd safety risks completely eliminated.
With this in mind, we would not have needed another Wembley!

Posted By Steve Cartwright In your origal post you said am i being silly? Yes you are. I have been to several football matches over the years, never had any trouble and been very much entertained. I've also been to the Millennium Stadium and it is one of the best stadiums in the country, would not have missed it for the world. As for H&S issues as long as they are managed properly the risks are low. I can not believe that someone has put this on the forumn. Have you got absolutely nothing better to do.

explore the theory a little more...
on the basis of saving the planet etc, perhaps the FA should decide on the venue of the final, then set a limit to the distance for teams to travels thus limiting inclusion to only local teams, and thus limiting pollution etc..
I propose the next final be held in Derby!! Exclusion limit set at 15 miles then we might stand a chance of winning.
Fed up with being a fish for now....
Going for a beer...

Posted By Berg Chelsea and Arsenal regularly fail to sell their ticket allocations for Cardiff. Maybe it's part of their Environmental Strategy.
