Posted By Chris Artless I would like some advice, my background is mainly in the food and training industry, i have always been interested in H&S and 2 years ago achieved my IOSH managing safety Cert, recently i have achieved my NEBOSH certificate, i do have some experience but not as much as i would like and this is only limited to the food industry. I am looking for a job in health and safety and would like to move away from the food industry, but i am always getting knock backs due to employers wanting the applicants to have the NEBOSH diploma or loads of experience in the field of expertise eg construction, railways etc, do any employers take on assistant or trainee H&S persons who have obtained IOSH and NEBOSH cert, if not how can i get the relevant practical experience???

Posted By Bob Youel dont knock the experience that you already have use as much experience as poss on your CV the process and logic for a [MHSW] risk assessment is basicially the same no matter where you apply it [in my opinion - after 30 years working with lap-dancers to saturation divers - school children to special needs - throught europe] similar with hazard spotting and the way you approach management / others academic qualifications are VIP so try to get what you can - think what it would be like if you visit your doctor and they have no certificates on the wall?

Posted By Glyn Atkinson A risk assessment for lap dancing !! - lots of exposures there, then?? Apologies for frivolously jumping on the thread ! Chris - Have you considered some voluntary assessment work for local charity groups in your home area to expand your safety knowledge into another field? How about trip assessments for a local school governing body at no cost to them ? Local care home manual handling assessments? All good experience of different situations for the C/V ! Just some stuff that I did many moons ago to expand my knowledge - and still do occasionally without charge!

Posted By Bob Youel lap dancing The lap dancers that I have delt with are self employed. However they usually work / train etc in a 'controllers' undertaking which is subject to many laws When you think of it there are as many risks in that occupation as in others and they are legally expected to manage their risks It can be a heart stopping job but no I will not give it up as somebody has to do it - my friend undertakes many such commissions

Posted By Tabs Helping charities is a good way to get experience, and to network - you might be surprised to know who you might be working next to at a charity... You might want to *consider* getting some professional indemnity insurance, or to ask a lawyer to draft a 'no liability' agreement. I personally think the risk of being sued would be very small to you - but it could have serious consequences.
