Posted By Jason911 Can anyone remember why you should not always induce vomiting if some particular chemicals are swallowed? I did know but cannot remember now for the life of me. Thanks, Jay

Posted By Blaise Jason The reason for not inducing vomiting for chemicals is that if the swallowed chemical was a corrosive substance, the act of swallowing would causes initial burns, the act of vomiting would cause a second set of burns as the chemicals came back. Blaise

Posted By Kate Graham Inducing vomiting is no longer taught to first aiders even for non-corrosive substances and most safety data sheets now tend to say "give milk or water to drink". Kate

Posted By steven bentham It is not only swallowing chemicals that you may wish to induce vomiting - some of the postings do that to me make me feel that way

Posted By Frank Cooper If you look at the First Aid information on the MSDS's for most chemicals it will say for ingestion "Do not induce vomitting. Give water to drink".
