Posted By paul littlewood Hi All We have an AED on site. My question is can these machines be used in a zone 1 area? We have a food manufacture area located about 30 feet high on a mezzanine floor where dry powder product is tipped into a mixing machine. Up-to 3 people can work there. About 40 feet away in a warehouse area it is not zoned. If we were not to use the AED in the zoned area what would be the best way of getting a casualty down and to a safe area to start using the AED? Any help much appreciated.

Posted By Tabs The only definitive answer to that will be supplied by the manufacturers of the equipment.
Unless they give you a definitive "yes" the answer should be taken to be "no". There is a genuine possibility of sparks on standard AED's - during training we are advised about metallic surfaces, and about chest burns caused by arcing.
Medevac of casualties is something that high access training companies should be able to help you decide.
