Hi All,

We are looking at possibly taking a couple of work experience students for 2 weeks and have been asked to complete an audit form.

This audit form asks if we have or will inform the HSE or Local Authority. Do we have to do this? and Where is this stated in regulations?

It would be much appreciated if anyone can answer these questions for me.

Many Thanks,

Don't know who is asking you the question, but you are not required to inform your LA or the HSE.

If the students are Secondary School students, H&S requirements should be checked out by your local Educational Business Partnership/Alliance. This should be sorted by the school.

Thanks for the input.

I was concerned that I was missing something in the depths of legislation and regulations but it seems that it was just a badly worded question and simply refers to registering the company in general with the HSE/Local Authority.

Many Thanks,

Scott

The only other possible point that comes to mind is that, if the work experience is not being organised by the school (eg privately by parents), the Education Authority (or school) would need to be informed.

I've seen the same question on a work experience checklist and I couldn't find any reason for informing, so just said no; there wasn't any comeback from that. I wonder where the idea comes from!

Kate,
the "audit" referred to is in fact a questionnaire. This is one question of several that establish the safety mgmt in an organisation offering work experience. Reason being that the LEA and school need to determine that children will be safe during their placements.
The question is merely asking whether the organisation has fulfilled their obligation to register the business NOT to inform that they are taking work experience students.
Hope that helps to clear up your question?

Thanks Pete - it's a poorly worded question in that case.
