I am looking into alternatives to using the above "system" for working on ceilings & walls above head height as there are no means of fall prevention in the system employed in my Co. Can anyone suggest any safer proprietary systems they use or have seen used ? eg painting, plastering etc.

Ali,

If you do wish to use the trestles- there is equipment out there that are in the form of attachements that provide the necessary protection- try "googling" trestles and handrails.
