I am currently looking at issues relating to the use of devices to support uncoupled semi trailers whilst they are being loaded and unloaded using powered mhe and dock levellers.

Does anyone have any information on the types available and their safe use?

Thanks in advance.

Mike,

i think you are talking about trailer props. Most companies do not use them, although they are beneficial particularly if you are loading heavy palletised loads with a counterbalance forklift truck. Most powered pallet trucks wouldn't present a problem but as usual, a thorough risk assessment would be required before any decision was made. The company i work for - like many others - simply parks a tractive unit under the trailer being loaded. For further info' contact me offline steve.clark@kuehne-nagel.com or stephen.clark@phyzix.co.uk

We use trailer jacks on our site, simple but affective and not too expensive. I have some pictures i could email if you wish.

We use these in conjunction with wheel chocks and a salvo system.

www.trailerjacks.co.uk - have a look at these site as they have some examples or just google 'Trailer Jacks'

Good luck

Simon
