I am about to outsource some training (for the first time) and need an idea of what a reasonable daily rate for a trainer would be. The trainer is kmown to me/us, so there is no doubts in our mind as to his ability -it's just what would be and fair and reasonable daily rate. Please e mail me direct if you prefer.
Many thanks

I suppose it all depends on the type of training etc, specialist trainibng would more than likely be more expensive than basic training.

I'll throw a price in the mix for you though.

One day Racking inspection course (basics)

£550 per day plus VAT - For upto 6 people.

Hope this helps

It will depend on the type of training whether it is specialist, needs a high level of understanding or is accredited through a recognised body (as they will charge fees etc.).

When I was a trainer in a previous job we delivered "standard" courses at around £ 400 - 500 per day (+ vat). For more specialised courses the charge was as high £ 900 - 1000 per day as there was usually a hefty fee payable to the accrediting body.

phil,

there is a very wide range out there. Don't go for the cheapies. £25 per hour usually means they are desperate or amateur. £50 to £100 is probably the range you are looking for.

Our target price (no secrets here) is about £1500 per day plus expenses.

And we want groups of about 12. Less than that then you have problems with synergy.

And groups of 12 usually turn out cheaper for the client than groups of 6. (50 people/12 = 4 sessions. 50 people/6 = 8 sessions)

Merv

And here I am, stuck in this (deleted) hotel for the next (deleted) four nights. (deleted)

Surely it will depend upon the nature of the training. A "standard" course/seminar where the material is already there and can be delivered without additional preparatory work is one thing.

Quite often we are asked to provide a course specific to the client's particular operation or to meet the needs of the specific participants. This can involve a significant amount of work which has to be paid for. It may even mean a visit to the client's workplace to review the operation, obtain photographs, details of chemicals and how they are being used, ppe etc.

There is also the question of ancillary costs, e.g. travel etc. It is one thing for me, based in Evesham, to provide a course in Birmingham, another where the client is in Aberdeen (or as last year, Vienna!)

So we don't have a single figure. We have our normal daily charge, but generally the rate will vary depending upon factors such as those mentioned.

Not very helpful, perhaps, except to help understanding as to why rates can vary so much.

Hi Phil, No offence but it is very hard to put a 'rate' on the training you require. It all depends on what you what and the particulars of the task. Yes I am a private training provider over several disciplines; I am a First Aid Trainer (Inc HSE FAW), Hazardous & Hostile environment trainer, Breathing Apparatus trainer, Confined Space Trainer (inc, Rescue trainer) and a conflict management trainer to mention just a few.

Don’t knock the cheapest, sometimes they are cheap just to try and get an edge on the competition, maybe it’s the time of year to be competitive, but yes they might be cheap because they are not the best.

If you would like a heads up on our rates, just as an indicator then please email me.
