Dear All,

During my time perusing the chat forum I frequently notice there are topics where people disagree with each other making it quite difficult to know what the accepted/correct response to a query is.

Would there be any merit/potential in having a 'rate my post' facility like the BBC website does so the bemused observer can get a better indication of which guidance to follow. Also, it might make contributors better consider responses before posting.

Just a thought for consideration. Go on, rate my post!!

Regards,

Kevin

Kevin, great idea!
How about the following grades:

Grade 1 Post - Technically superb AND an interesting read.

Grade 2 Post - Technically superb OR an interesting read.

Grade 3 Post - Technically average OR of some use... Maybe...

Grade 4 Post - Completely misses the point OR engages keyboard before brain.

Grade 5 Post - Belligerent OR Troll OR Ranting OR Whinging.

Good idea!

Can we have a similar system for grading Merv recipes?

Come to think of it, I've not seen any recently have the mods "got at" you Merv.

But would it improve things or just provide a challenge??
A bit like going for "misere", for example??
I think we all do it as individuals don,t we?

Grade 6 - Corrects spelling or grammar,
Grade 7 - Quotes regulations verbatim,
Grade 8 - Answers with the phrase "Do a risk assessment".

Grade 9 - seriously think about a change of career

Only kidding, but being not perfect myself, some of the postings I have seen over the years do leave a lot to be desired.

Thankfully tomorrow is a friday!

Well yes, the Minotaurs do bring me back to earth when I fly a bit too close to the sun. They complain of "frivolous postings" Amazing. Makes my wax melt.

I do manage to slip the odd one in but I have to attache it to a grade 1 or 2 posting. Not many of those about.

I'll wait till Friday and have another go.

A good idea; but, fraught with problems! For example, how do you rate the technical accuracy of the posting if you don't know the subject?

Regarding Merv's recipes ... now that is problematic; I can get a good recipe and ruin it immediately by putting it on the stove;)

Wow! What an excellent idea - alas, fraught with problems. Nevertheless 9/10 for a good idea.

I like the idea of grade 5, or Report This Post. Having just read yet another juvenile, ranting tirade on a discussion thread, I feel that many of the posts are an embarrassment to IOSH and the profession. Goodness knows what Joe Public thinks if they happen to wander into the discussion forum and read some of the diatribes.

Hi Folks,

No, don't like it. The problem is that 200,000,000 flies can be wrong and there is no real way of evaluating whether the people recommending or posting have any authority at all for their statements

I mean, the way to get 'most recommended' on the BBC HYS site is to go to the local pub, talk to the man in it, and repeat his comments verbatim in your post. Wouldn't want the same thing here,

Although I do like the idea of a 'report this post' or 'alert a mod',
