Posted By Michael Hosking Are C02 extinguishers subject to 10 year test/examination in relation to their being a pressurised container. My understanding is that whilst they are outside of pressure systems regs there is something under another standard that requires 10 year test/examination of all pressure vessels/containers. info and any relevant standard/regulation much appreciated.

Posted By Dave Dowan Hi Michael Hope thsi helps Servicing of Extinguishers Extinguishers need regular servicing, with discharge tests carried out every four years in the case of water, foam, aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) and dry powder (stored pressure types). Discharge tests should be carried out every five years for cartridge-operated types. It is recommended that pressure tesing of carbon dioxide type Extinguishers should be carried out on a 10-year basis, unless the equipment is serviced regularly, in which case the pressure tesing period may be extended to 20 years. The average life span of an Extinguisher containing water, foam or aqueous film forming foam falls between 10 and 15 years, whereas carbon dioxide types may last up to 20 years Regards Dave

Posted By Crim My memory tells me that CO2 extinguishers should be subjected to a pressure test after the first 10 years, following that every 5 years. I'm sure someone will let us know if I am correct or otherwise?
