Hi everybody,
I am currently working in a coiled tubing rig using a tower with seven sections and during the rig up or rig down, helpers need to get on the top of the seventh tower section to either put the lifting slings or remove them, the problem is that they are unable to get an anchoring point to attach the safety harnees to, what do you think about using the crane as an anchoring point?
I would really be grateful if anyone can help me on that.
Kind regards.

i would not recommend using the crane as an anchorage point, too many things that could go wrong. The main issue for you would be the fall from a great height so i would clip myself onto the platform being installed itself. You should be able to do this using a sling and shackle, although this is not ideal there is not much else you can really do and all you are doing is just taking the slings off so it wont be for a long time. The crane idea sounds OK in theory, but then you have account for what would happen in the event of equipment failure, operator error and too many other variables, there is also the LOLER issue as if you did use the crane it would then be subject to conditions of LOLER for equipment used for lifting people and the inspection regime which is every 6 months i think?
