Posted By Simon Walsh Grad IOSH Our safety representatives has said that there is a legal requirement to mark up heavy items of equipment (over 25kg) with a warning sticker stating what the item weighs. Whilst I agree it is good practice I can not see where it is a legal requirement in Manual Handling Operations Regulations. Can anyone advise?

Posted By Alan Hoskins MH Regs say that employers shall: take appropriate steps to provide any of those employees who are undertaking any such manual handling operations with general indications and, where it is reasonably practicable to do so, precise information on - (aa) the weight of each load, and (bb) the heaviest side of any load whose centre of gravity is not positioned centrally. Doesn't mean you have to use a label though... Also, suppliers usually mark up their packages with the weight. Alan

Posted By peter gotch Hi Simon If anything your safety reps are underestimating the risks by defining a heavy load as being one exceeding 25 kg. Regards, Peter
