Posted By John Holland1 I have been informed by one of our employees that a bench type grinding machine that has been purchased does not need to be bolted or clamped to a bench before use. My view is that under PUWER regulation 20 stability, then the machinery does require to be stabilised by clamping or otherwise. Your thoughts please Regards John

Posted By holmezy Yes, it needs clamping temporarily or bolting permanently. Its probably got holes in the base for thise very purpose. Doesnt bear thinking about the consequencies of the grinder moving and the operators hand coming into contact with the wheel!! Holmezy

Posted By Alan Nicholls John If you are talking about a twin grinding wheel type, the answer is yes it does. If you are refering to a linnishing belt type then yes it does. With any bench top machinery it comes with handy holes drilled in each corner of the base, this would be to fix it in position. Any form of mechanical electrical device will move around while in use, common sense tell you to prevent this from happening. If your people don't believe you, tell to them to do some research on what happens when a grinding wheel bursts. They tend not to take prisoners. Sorry if this sound sarcastic, had a bad day.
