I've delivered a lot of in-house training courses to employees working for the same firm as me in my capacity as HS&E advisor. I'd like to do the same for other companies in my area but before I go and seek out opportunities, I was wondering whether there are any authorisations or approvals I'll need from HSE (for example). I'm not planning to offer anything too specialist to start with, just the usual Safety/Environmental awareness, Risk assessment, Manual Handling etc.

Whilst you do this in house you are covered by your employer's insurance. If you do it yourself them the recent thread on insurance is probably relevant to you.

Very many H&S professionals that I have come across have no formal qualifications re educating / training; yet they have trained etc for years - when I have used certain educational / trainer terms they have had no idea what I was referring to
I am not in any way saying that you are not such a person I am just making the observation its just that if an accident happens a trainer may be questioned as to their competence

You should certainly check out the insurance threads and try to get a teaching/training qualification before you consider this. If you were doing this through your company i.e. if they were selling your services, you would still be covered by their insurance.
HSE do not give approval for training apart from First Aid, but if you were thinking of presenting recognised courses you should have a look at the NEBOSH and CIEH sites as well as this one as all three organisations have recognised qualifications and routes for people/organisations to be approved to present their courses.

Hi thanks for the steer about insurance, will certainly go down this route. It was the CIEH qualification I was really thinking of doing - so if i get myself insurance and crack on with the CIEH course, I'm in business!
