Posted By Paul Hello I hold the NEBOSH General, Construction and Level 6 Diploma and CSCS state that there is no dispensation from sitting a H & S multiple choice test! I can not believe that H & S professionals have to go through the same process as tradesmen / contractors. Our IOSH cards should be enough to demonstrate competency, why are CSCS cards required at all? Any comments?

Posted By CFT Paul I see this is being mooted around the industry at the moment; I tend to agree it is bordering on ridiculous but if it is policy I don't feel much can be done other than to comply.

Posted By Stephen Bowdler I believe the only way to resolve this is by us all lobbying our Safety Membership bodies to work together. I have spoken to Hazel on this matter and other representatives at the Institute of Risk and Safety Management. The Electrical Contractors Association have created a recognised system that CSCS except, can IOSH not create a system that is recognised by CSCS?

Posted By Paul CSCS state: To apply for a Health & Safety Manager (Construction) CSCS Card you would have to achieved or undertake NVQ Level 4 in either Occupational Safety & Health Practice or Planning Supervision (CDM). So whats the test all about, if you have achieved level 4. Strange.............

Posted By David Bramall Paul I agree - CSCS (or CSR in my case) is only a minimum measure of H&S competence. Unfortunately it appears to represent the be all and end all in relation to competence. I would view these schemes as a starting point only, not a measure of competence. Having achieved the great level of CSCS I do believe that the process should continue until we all achieve a level of competence ( and more importantly increase this knowledge / competence ) until eventually we are all very competent people on construction sites.
