Where will I find legislation/rules relating to locating waste skips on the highway any rules we need to follow?

Depending on the area for location you will need to apply to the LA for a skip siting license. You will also require appropriate liability insurance.

Generally most skip hire companies will have all the necessary conditions in place to meet the requirements for siting a skip, including striping/lighting etc thus making your job much easier; in the main most hire companies will do the lot for you and add it all on as a charge.

My experience is that the skip contractor takes care of the paperwork. They let the local authority know what, where and for how long. Takes an extra 3 days to get permission compared to siting skips on private ground if I remember correctly.
