Hi Andy

Have a look on the websites of the top 100 companies within the UK, the majority will have a copy of their H&S policy statement on there.

The basic guidelines (as defined by 18001 if you are looking to go down that route) are as follows

1.Appropriate to the nature and scale of the organisation
2.Include a commitment to at the very least comply with all relevant and current legislation and any other requirements to which the organisation subscribes
3.Communicated to all employees, and other interested parties (insurance company etc)
available to interested parties (neighbours etc)
4.Reviewed regularly
5.Signed and dated by the most senior person within the company (Chairperson of the board (politically correct I hope), CEO etc)
6. Include a commitment to continual improvement.

Hope the above is of some use.
