Posted By Homer During a site visit yesterday a scaffolder advised me that he thought that ladders had to be inspected and tagged seperately, what is current position?

Posted By The toecap Well yes. We have a ladder register on all sites. These are tagged to be identified and are kept in check. When they get damaged they are removed and replaced. Although, sometimes this doesn't happen when it should.

I agree with Toecap. the HSE have some good literature on Ladder Safety and Inspections, they also have a presentation which is available for download in the Height Awareness Campaign section. We implemented this last summer and the trades have taken to it ok (with a few grumbles!)

Posted By Dan Malone Homer,
With regard to inspecting ladders, yes they should be inspected separately. This I would take when that are being used on their own. As part of a scaffold then the weekly inspection of the complete scaffold should cover all items. WE have used the Scafftag system where I work. Easy way to insure that scaffold system has been inspected.
