I need a Coshh Assessment for Diesel can anyone point me in the right direction.

We do not have diesel tanks but 2 of our vehicles do.

We now have a site where these vehicles go and someone wants a Coshh assessment in case a spillage occurs.

Help Please

Do they mean a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), so that they can carry out the COSHH assessment?

I do not see how you could carry out a COSHH assessment for a visit to their facility / site, unless you visit and then it would only be to assist as you would not know all you need to understand any issues they may have that could have an influence on the findings.

We have tanker deliveries of various solvents, we carried out the COSHH assessment from that, and an environmental assessment from spillage, the diesel tank on the actual vehicle was considered low risk compared to the potential impact from the actual tanker.

I have to concur with the previous posting. A COSHH risk assessment is not about the chemical but what happens when it is used. Only when it is used (or some other unexpected event occurs which results in exposure) does a risk arise.

Thus without a visit to inspect the workplace where the event is occurring it is not possible to do a COSHH risk assessment.

A "generic" risk assessment might not be applicable due to the particular conditions existing in the workplace in question and could (and as I have found with more than one client) lead to an assessment of little or no risk, when the opposite is true. This is one reason why I tend to regard all "standard" approaches (e.g. COSHH essentials) with a measure of caution, since they usually cannot take account of the individual situations.

For the responses above it was a Data Sheet they needed and I did not have one. Thankfully to people reading my post I have now.
