Posted By Sean McBreen Is there information on controls that can be put in place to prevent falls from height when off loading materials from flat bed trailers, especially in areas were there is not much room to erect a scaffold around the area were lorrys are been unloaded.

Posted By alex mccreadie I think that is a brave statement to make from Andrew Kingscott as there are plenty of other systems on the market as good as Bean Bags. Are you sure he did not say Bean Bags were a good system? As an ex member of a Air Bag/Mat supplier approved by the British Safety Council I would be questioning an HSE statement saying use a particular product. The Air Bag/Mat system is every bit as good and as stated on a previous post has been adopted with a major Steel Supplier for unloading lorries.

Posted By Merlin May I suggest, dependant on the type of trailer
• A good engineer would help you to erect a tube and clip
Make a “V” upside down with 2 scaffold tubs about 6 feet in height, connected to a vice clip on both the head board and tail-end of the trailer these then would be connected by a live wire which the drive can connect a fixed length lanyard
On trailers where there are twist lock connecters
Make two goal posts one for the head board and one for the tail-end and again connected by a life line.
Don’t forget you have to get the driver up onto the flat bed by steps.

Posted By Chris Pope Just been emailed by Combisafe with this :
Combisafe Loading System
"designed for the loading and unloading of material from lorry beds'
Based around the Alsipercha fall protection system, the Combisafe Loading System is designed for the loading and unloading of materials from the top of flatbed vehicles in a safe manner.
Mobile and demountable, this fall protection system can be positioned adjacent to the lorry bed to permit a person access to the whole area.
I have an interest in this problem for fall protection during unloading mobile plant, securing it etc
