I was passed this to read - and its interesting. The new EU strategy to cut accidents by 25% by 2012 throughout Europe (this coming from Brussels who's H&S leaves a lot to be desired). In section 4.2 it talks about countries enforcing legislation through inspectors, and ensuring there are resources to do their job - funny how the HSE have now cut their personnel and resources budget by £50million....

Food for thought....

Interesting subject Europe, some very good thinking goes on there?
GB is cutting the resources for H&S inspections etc, because we have been at this game since before 1974 and great stridwes ahve been made althogh there are some serious concerns about some sectors especially construction. But I think overall there is some good news so it may be realistict to reduce some inspection with the gradual move to self regulation. It all el and good to talk in terms of inspection but what is the starting point how does the levels compare throughout Europe? Were we in the UK over inspecting compared to the rest of Europe? Are we still inspection at agreat frequency than elsewhere. To state we are reducing while others are increase is a very subjective statement and unless we know all the stats its unfare to make a comparison.
