We currently have a policy where if you use a truck for no matter how long (1 minute or 1 day) you do pre inspection checks that take quite a long time to complete.
During busy periods lately drivers have been swapping trucks regularly.
I am thinking of just doing one check per shift, what do others think?

Provided the FLT is checked at the beginning of every shift and any defects that arise during the day are reported to supervisors then I would suggest that this is enough.

A check every time a different operator uses a FLT is impractical.

PS hope you lose your last home match

We probably will lose our last home match, the Albion are no good against teams in red...or blue...or yellow..or any other colour except maybe old gold!

Suggestion; task the first person to 'use it' to do the FLT checks and ensure its recorded.

In your risk assessment/toolbox, document that each forklift driver is responsible for identifying and reporting defects - then get them all to sign it.

These checks can take from 15 mins to an hour so its not practical to do every hour (you would never get any work done).

Just coming back to this, where does it say you need to do daily fork lift truck checks?
